Putnam Valley High School Students Create a "Stay-Awake-A-Thon" Fundraiser
Town Supervisor Sam Oliverio joined Putnam Valley High School students as Optimum Community presented a check to the charity Drug Crisis in Our Backyard on the students’ behalf. After the ceremony the students participated in a “Stay-Awake-A-Thon” to raise awareness and additional funds with overnight activities including a pie eating contest and raffles. The Putnam Valley students are participating in Optimum Community’s Charity Champions program which rewards their efforts with a donation to the charity of their choice.
Drug Crisis in Our Backyard is a community-based program offering education and action-oriented opportunities for families and addicts struggling with addiction. The organization was originally started in 2012 by two sets of parents after the loss of their sons to a battle against heroin.
