Brentwood High School Student Wins Nat Geo Mundo World Explorer Essay Contest
Cablevision and Nat Geo Mundo, along with New York State Assemblyman Phil Ramos, recognized Brentwood High School student Xavier Cornejo as the winner of the Nat Geo Mundo World Explorer essay contest. Xavier read the essay that won him a trip to Brazil, and Assemblyman Ramos spoke about the benefit of world travel with regard to learning. All trips in the 2014 National Geographic Student Expedition are led by qualified trip hosts and a National Geographic expert and are provided by National Geographic Student Expeditions. Applicants were required to submit a 300-word essay on “what he/she hopes to accomplish through world travel and why they should be selected.” Sponsored by Cablevision and Nat Geo Mundo, the Nat Geo Mundo Explorer Contest was open to all high school students from the Brentwood school district.
“Congratulations to Xavier for his outstanding essay which I thoroughly enjoyed,” said Assemblyman Ramos. “Travel, whether it be within the U.S. or abroad, clearly provides a more diverse life experience and a greater appreciation for the differences and similarities that exist between various cultures. I would like to thank Cablevision and Nat Geo Mundo for providing the young people in our area with this terrific opportunity for travel and educational enrichment.”
