Charity Champions at Mount Sinai HS
Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined Optimum Community in recognizing Mount Sinai High School SADD club members and advisors John Wilson and John McHugh for participating in this year’s Charity Champions program. Students have chosen to raise money for a local organization, Holiday Magic. The not-for-profit began in 1990 to provide holiday generosity and spirit to those less fortunate. The school was presented with $1,000 to be donated to Holiday Magic, and also received $500 for the furtherance of their charitable activities which they also donated to the charity. Following opening remarks from SADD Advisor John Wilson and Optimum Public Affairs Manager Kristen Thurber, Legislator Anker recognized the students for their enthusiasm and ongoing commitment to Holiday Magic. Charlie Russo, founder of Holiday Magic, then spoke about the mission of the charity and was presented with the $1500 check. After the check presentation, student members of SADD hosted a holiday dinner for children in need and their families in the high school cafeteria where the children received holiday gifts.
“During this time of year our thoughts turn to helping those in need, especially children,” said Legislator Anker. “I congratulate all of the students involved in today’s program for their dedication to others and thank them for their efforts in helping to make the holidays brighter. I also applaud Optimum Community for bringing this program to the students in our area.”
