Delete Cyberbullying
West Elementary School hosts Internet Smarts Event
Optimum’s Power to Learn and Long Beach City Manager Jack Schnirman recognized fifth-grade students at West Elementary School for their participation in Power to Learn’s Internet Smarts program. Internet Smarts provides students with curriculum and tools designed to teach safe and appropriate Internet use. West Elementary students prepared interpretations of Cyberbullying and ways to prevent it through posters, skits, and songs. City Manager Jack Schnirman spoke to the kids about the dangers of Cyberbullying and participated in an interactive Q&A session, followed by the signing of an Internet Smarts certificate for West Elementary School. Students also signed a Delete Cyberbullying pledge.
“Today’s presentations were both interesting and informative and I congratulate each of the students involved,” said Long Beach City Manager Schnirman. “Navigating the web safely and knowing how to deal with issues like cyberbullying are basic skills required of all students today. Thanks to the Power to Learn Internet Smarts program, the students here at West Elementary School have a better understanding of what constitutes appropriate Internet behavior.”
