Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest
Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Winner Awarded First Place Prize at Long Island Lutheran High School
Optimum Community held a Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest prize ceremony at Long Island Lutheran High School attended by NY State Assemblyman Michael Montesano. Eleventh grader Cara Yesko, first place winner in the high school category, was presented with an iPad Air. More than 600 students and teachers were in attendance along with Cara’s father and grandparents.
The topic of this year’s essay contest, in its 8th year from Optimum Community and partner Olympusat, was “Name a Latino with whom you’d like to spend a day and explain why.” Cara’s essay was about Anna Maria Chavez, the Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts of the USA and the first Latina to head the organization.
