Meet the Leaders at School
Oceanside HS Students Participate in MTL at School Event with Representative Kathleen Rice
Social studies students at Oceanside High School had the opportunity to meet and learn from Representative Kathleen Rice when they took part in the popular Cablevision television show, "Meet the Leaders @ School." Representative Rice participated in a Q&A with students that covered a variety of timely topics and provided insight into her personal and professional journey that has landed her where she is today. Student questions brought about discussions covering the importance of engaging in the political process and registering to vote as soon as you turn 18; focusing on providing better support and resources for our veterans as they integrate back into civilian life; gender and ethnic diversity in the workplace; and local issues including continuing storm recovery and affordability on Long Island.
"It was an honor to spend time today with such bright and enthusiastic young people who care about the important issues facing our communities," said Representative Rice. "I appreciate the thoughtful questions that the students prepared, and I hope that our dialogue today helped them gain a better understanding of the issues we discussed and will motivate them to remain actively engaged in their communities and in the democratic process. I would also like to thank Cablevision for bringing an informative show like Meet the Leaders into the classroom."
“Cablevision’s Meet the Leaders is a terrific platform through which to engage students in current affairs and provide them with a firsthand opportunity to meet leaders like Representative Kathleen Rice,” said Cablevision Vice President of Public Affairs Jennifer Ostrager. “Our young people are our next generation of leaders and it is vital that they be knowledgeable about key issues that affect both them and their communities.”
