Smithtown High School East Students Receive Charity Champions Donation for the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation

Optimum Community presented a donation to Smithtown East High School’s Leadership Club at a community fundraiser that was part of the school’s participation in Optimum’s Charity Champions contest, which encourages students to raise money for a charity of their choice. The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation is the beneficiary of Smithtown East’s participation in Charity Champions and the fundraiser was held on a “NY Rangers Game Night” at East Side Grill in St. James.

Students from Smithtown East’s Leadership Club and advisor Morgan Tavis coordinated with the restaurant’s owners to donate 15% of all the evening’s proceeds to their selected charity. In addition, students solicited local businesses and created baskets as raffles to create an exciting evening for attendees.
