Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest
Hispanic Heritage Month Essay 2nd Place Winner Awarded Prize At Robert R. Lazar Middle School
Optimum Community and Olympusat celebrated eighth grader Christine Sun for placing second in their 8th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest. During the presentation, Christine read aloud her winning essay about Ellen Ochoa, noted female Hispanic astrophysicist famous for her nine-day mission aboard the shuttle Discovery in 1993. Christine’s classmates in Spanish class as well as her parents were there to cheer the winning student on.
Students in the tristate area were invited to submit an essay of 500 words or less and to name a Latino, past or present, with whom they would choose to spend a day and explain why. Christine’s essay was chosen from more than 400 essays in the middle school category, and she was awarded an iPad Air by representatives from Optimum Community and Committeeman-elect Frank Cooney.
