"Legend of Lead Belly" debuts at Fairleigh Dickinson University in honor of Black History Month
In celebration of Black History Month, Optimum Community partnered with the Smithsonian Channel to bring an exclusive screening of the new documentary, Legend of Lead Belly, to Fairleigh Dickenson University. The documentary profiles one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century, Huddie Ledbetter. Ledbetter, better known as Lead Belly, has inspired generations of musicians, from The Weavers to the Grateful Dead, from Van Morrison, to The Beach Boys and even Nirvana. Few people today know his remarkable story and even fewer know when they are listening to his music. Following the screening a Q&A was held with John Reynolds, co-author and editor of “Lead Belly: A Life in Pictures” and Smithsonian EVP David Royle.
