Black History Month Essay Contest
All Saints Academy Student Chosen as Black History Month Essay Contest Runner-Up
All Saints Academy 4th grade student Bianca Lumang was announced as a runner-up in Optimum Community’s inaugural Black History Month Essay Contest. Bianca’s essay, written about abolitionist and women’s right activist Sojourner Truth, was chosen from more than 300 essays in the elementary school category.
Students throughout the tristate area were invited to submit an essay of 500 words or less naming an African American with whom they would choose to spend a day and explain why. Bianca was awarded an iPad mini and had an opportunity to read her winning essay aloud to her classmates and special guest Assemblywoman Angela McKnight.
