Cardinal Hayes High School Students Receive Charity Champions Donation And Pizza Party
Optimum Community hosted a Charity Champions check presentation at Cardinal Hayes High School. More than 50 students were recognized for their fundraising efforts in the school’s annual holiday drive for the Sacred Heart Food Pantry. Father Joe Franco from the food pantry was in attendance to accept a $1,000 donation presented by Optimum Community on behalf of the students. Cardinal Hayes HS President Father Tierney delivered brief remarks about the students’ efforts and then the boys enjoyed a pizza party courtesy of PG Pizzeria, whose owner, Pashk Gjini, is an alumnus of the school.
A staple in the community for many years, The Sacred Heart food pantry is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation. Those in need are welcome come each Friday and “shop” for donated groceries and supplies to help make ends meet. Under the direction of Father Franco, The Sacred Heart food pantry services approximately 170 families per week.
