Holiday Gifts for U.S. Servicemen and Women
Recently, sixth grade students from the
Baldwin Middle School stayed after school preparing special care packages for soldiers overseas in Afghanistan. The children, inspired by the sacrifices made by our servicemen and servicewomen, hoped to make the soldiers feel a little closer to home for the holidays. Lindsey shared, “Since they can’t spend the holidays with their family, I wanted to prepare some goodies for them. They have done a lot to protect us.”
Over the course of two weeks, the students brought in hot cocoa, mini-marshmallows, candy canes and Hershey Kisses. The 62 middle school elves transformed their cafeteria into a Wonderland Workshop and assembled 210 “snowman soup" treats. Each package also contained a special holiday greeting of gratitude and good wishes. Summing up the day, Christopher exclaimed, “I wanted to make a difference for people that make such a difference for me.”
