Honoring Our Heroes
Recently, students from the
New Hyde Park Road School, showed their support for local veterans, members of the military, and law enforcement officials in a big way. The entire student body gathered for a special assembly honoring those who have served, both past and present. There were speeches and patriotic songs to thank them and let them know that their sacrifices do not go unnoticed.
Prior to the assembly, the fifth graders pitched in and assembled the “goody” bags with notes and candy. Students in grades K-2 colored flags, while the third and fourth graders decorated the special “Thank You” goody bags, and the fifth and sixth grade children wrote the thank you notes.
Nicole shared, “When I was making these bags and putting them together, it made me feel proud. I felt like I was giving something back to the people who have given so much to me.” Kevin added, “It’s a way for us to show our respect to the Army, Navy, and people who serve us.”
