Dancing the Night Away
Central Islip High School students believe in helping others, and they recently demonstrated just that in a big way. The student council members organized a “Dance-A-Thon” to raise awareness and funds for the Central Islip Civic Council. The Central Islip Civic Council is a non-profit, community based agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents of Central Islip for the past 46 years. They have an emergency food pantry for residents, sponsor free recreational activities, and much more.
As participants in Optimum Community’s Charity Champions, which supports students’ charitable activities and donates money to a high school-selected charity, the students commit time and effort to raising money, competing against other schools, and contributing the funds raised. The student council members under the direction of advisor, Ms. Fran Alabau, danced the night away and worked hard to raise awareness and help combat hunger within their local community.
