Generations Brought Together
Recently,
Division High School students had an opportunity to interact with senior citizens in a way that had lasting benefits for both. For the past three years, the students from Levittown have performed their school play for local senior citizens. This year, the seniors traveled from Levittown, North Wantagh, Seaford and Island Trees to enjoy a performance of West Side Story. Between the cast, orchestra and crew there were 65 students involved who dedicated 5 grueling months to prepare for the play. The performance had special meeting for the students, as well as the seniors, who were entertained by an extraordinarily talented group of actors, dancers and musicians. During intermission, the cast had the chance to mingle with their guests and glow in the praise and appreciation of the seniors.
Cast member Jaida R. shared, “Performing our show for the senior citizens made me very happy. Seeing the joy on their faces when we spoke to them made me appreciate the show so much more.” Fellow student Robyn B. added, “I absolutely loved seeing the smiles on their faces when we walked out to talk with them. It was especially meaningful to see they enjoyed the show, because many of them grew up in the same time period we were trying to portray.”
