Volunteering with a Smile
For over 10 years, student members of the Volunteer Club at
Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville have been making a difference in the lives of the guests at the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead. Recently, the club members turned out and made over 200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the INN. Their good works don’t stop there. They have donated school supplies, written cards to our service men/women, and collected stuffed animals for the Ronald McDonald House and the pediatric unit at Winthrop Hospital.
When asked to share their thoughts, 12th grader Michael G. shared, “It is a great feeling to do volunteer work and help those who are not as fortunate. It is awesome to know that what I did today would help someone who could not afford to feed themselves.” Darren N. added, “Today showed me that something as simple as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich can brighten up someone's day. It is truly a rewarding experience to help a great cause like the Mary Brennan INN.” Lastly, fellow club member Samantha S. noted, “I have been a part of the Volunteer Club for the past four years and I love being able to help those less fortunate. It is events like making sandwiches for the Mary Brennan INN that really shows just how much of a difference groups like the Volunteer Club can make.”
