Creative Way to Fight Hunger
Students at
Lloyd Harbor Elementary School in Huntington shared their artistic talents and played a part in ending hunger on Long Island. They recently participated in, “The Empty Bowls Project”, a grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight against hunger. Every child in the school created a ceramic bowl out of clay that was fired and then glazed. The bowls represented people who sit down each day to an empty bowl or plate at mealtime. Guests chose a beautiful bowl to keep and were invited to a simple meal in exchange for a donation benefiting Long Island Cares.
When asked to share their thoughts on being part of the Empty Bowls event, Lily said, “It was fun and taught me not to take things for granted." Madison exclaimed, “It was a good feeling to know we were helping others." Lastly, Kate added, " Doing just one little thing can make the biggest difference."
