No Generation Gap Here
Students from the
Walnut Street Elementary School in Uniondale have an ongoing relationship with residents at the Bristal Assisted Living in East Meadow. For the second time this year, members of the Girls Rites of Passage Club, and other students of teacher Carrie Bender, visited the senior citizens and shared a warm morning together. One could see by the smiles and comments made, that both the children and the Bristal residents were overwhelmed with joy while creating Valentine cards with stickers, markers, stamps, doilies and colored pencils. The children helped their seniors decorate and write several caring thoughts on each card. Student Alana, shared her feelings about the day saying, “I’ve been looking forward to this day for weeks. We enjoyed our last meeting with Edith, and couldn’t wait to hear more of her stories about her family and friends.” Classmate Erica exclaimed, “When I went to the Bristal, I saw many seniors. They were so kind. They were filled with love and caring." Lastly, Suniyah added, “They were so sweet and delighted to see us, just like we were!"
