Bags Of Comfort
Recently, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from the One World Club at
West Hollow Middle School in Melville decorated and stuffed 15 duffel bags for children in foster care. The duffel bags were filled with a teddy bear, coloring book, crayons, toothbrush, and a blanket. The bags were donated to the Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families and allowed the children to keep their belongings in their own new bag. The students spent time during their club meeting drawing on the duffel bags and designing them in whatever way they wanted, in order to personalize the bags for the children.
When asked about the project, club member Himani M. shared, “It felt good to help another person. I’m glad I had an impact on another kid.” Hannah N. added, “It makes me feel good to know that I made someone smile.” Lastly, Matthew R. noted, “I hope I can inspire others to help out in the community.”
