Felix Festa Middle School hosts Internet Smarts Event
New York State Senator David Carlucci joined Cablevision's Power to Learn at Felix Festa Middle School to recognize students for their participation in Power to Learn's Internet Smarts program, and to announce the winner of the school's Internet Safety contest. Students submitted ideas on how to be safe on the web through posters, essays, presentations, songs and videos. Approximately 65 students and staff attended the event, which began with a video featuring students who entered the contest. Senator Carlucci then spoke to students about the importance of Internet safety and appropriate online behavior. Dean of Students Christine Madigan discussed the details of the school contest and announced Matthew Majsak as the Grand Prize winner. Cablevision awarded Matthew with a Kindle Fire and the event concluded with Senator Carlucci signing a large Internet Smarts certificate and encouraging students to sign the pledge.
“Congratulations to Matthew Majsak for winning the 'Internet Safety' contest and to all of the other students who participated,” said Senator Carlucci. “As we know, the Internet is a truly wonderful resource for young people today, but is also poses certain risks. Thanks to contests such as this that motivate students to think about responsible behavior and also Cablevision's Internet Smarts program, young people better understand how to handle themselves in an online environment.”
