Doing Good, Feeling Good
Students from Bellmore’s
Mepham High School senior class that are in the Participation in Government classes and Senior Experience Program work tirelessly raising money and awareness for many charities. A total of over $270,000 has been raised since they began six years ago. This semester’s organization benefiting from their efforts is Tuesday’s Children, which provides services for the children of 9/11 victims, first esponders, and military personnel. The students have organized many different fundraising efforts and school-wide drives. Recently, the senior class donated their time, cutting and tying fleece blankets for the No-Sew Blankets for Homeless Vets. They also created and decorated holiday bookmarks for, Handmade Bookmarks for Soldiers, along with collecting books for troops stationed at home and oversees. While raising money has been a focus of their efforts, interacting with the volunteers from Tuesday’s Children, as well as the families of those impacted by September 11th, will be remembered and treasured by all the senior class, as well as the entire school community.
